This mixed hedge of mainly hawthorn and gorse looks a work of art in the way it has been trimmed each year leaving a flat top yet allowing the plants to grow more naturally behind.  All the local hedges in that area are very well maintained with no evidence of the unsightly broken and torn branches so often seen elsewhere after they have been cut.
