Always a surprise
I saw my first Cape May warbler last year in a pine tree down the road, and here they are back again this year. He was back and forth all day between the spruce trees and the apples ( though looks much prettier in the apples).Today was apparently pretty busy with the Cape Mays, the orioles coming back and an indigo bunting in the apple tree as well. NO sign of the yellow rumped warblers today so I guess they have headed off. Heard but not seen was a barred owl- who cooks for you anyway?
The little ( now flock ) of 4-6 white throated sparrows are still hanging out as well so they may be staying for the summer. And the new nest box has attracted a swallow pair. I didn't think we'd get bluebirds in it , but I am quite happy to have swallows!
I haven't been able to spend much time with Blip the last few weeks as I have been inundated with what feels like clerical work more than actual patient care at work and home later than I would like most days. And earlier in the week we had a trip out of state for the funeral of a close friend's husband. Which makes me think of the line from Hamilton that George Washington quote about retiring and spending your remaining time in your own home , under your own fig tree -while you still have time to do so to .Sadness for our friends , thoughts of our own mortality.
So I am late posting , late checking your blips and late answering comments. And I think this time next year I will have the time to play more and enjoy the birds and flowers and may be sit under my own tree because if I have the grace to be here next year I will be retired -11more months at the most. It's time.
