"This is the coastal town..."
Morecambe on a Bank Holiday Monday morning.
Once, it seemed, Morecambe might have been a contender for the town in Morrissey's 'Everyday Is Like Sunday', a song* written just after The Smiths split up and on the very cusp of his transition from the impeccable ethical role model of a generation into a horrid old racist.
However, the Eden Project North, due to open in around three years' time, should put paid to any danger of a further decline in Morecambe's fortunes. Just imagine if they finally built the bridge across to Barrow, too!
*Morrissey's first post-Smiths album, 'Viva Hate', is a most splendid piece of work. Produced by Stephen Street (who also plays bass) and with Vini Reilly (from the Durutti Column) on guitar, it's a thing of sonic, musical, and lyrical beauty. EXCEPT for one song, 'Bengali In Platforms', which I haven't heard in nearly twenty years since iTunes first came out and I imported the album from CD but left off that one track. The rot started right there.

Reading: 'Touching The Void' by Joe Simpson <-- This isn't true. I haven't picked up the book since putting down Gary Numan's autobiography. I have been too busy looking at tutorials about synthesisers and music software!
