St Peter’s and Paul’s and Archbishops Palace

It poured this morning which was a good thing as we needed the rain after missing out last Monday. It filled a 200 litre water butt to the very top.

Not all good news as the water collection system for the pond, as recommended last year by Knottman2, failed to deliver any of the rain from the shed to the pond having worked all winter. Even worse I’d left the tap on a butt connected to the studio open so lost 100 litres.

The rain also made manure shovelling at the allotment rather soggy and squelchy. Six of us hardy souls laboured in the rain to cart a ton of the stuff from the trailer to our respective plots. The good news is that the bin I cleared the other day is now full of horse manure which will rot down ready for next year (if we’re still here) Susan meanwhile, was taking her mother to the hospital for another eye appointment. Still one more to do in 4 weeks time.

The afternoon brightened up so we followed an amended route from the Kent Walks from Railway Stations book we’ve been using the past three weekends.

We drove to Charing and did a loop out to Westwell coming back along the Pilgrims Way. On the 40 years in Kent this was our first visit to Charing, every other time we’ve whizzed by on the bypass. It is a gem of a village, houses and history so very interesting.

Too many choices for a blip today. I’ve plumped for the one of St Peter and Paul’s Church at Charing. The significance of this shot is that the church, being one day’s walking distance from Canterbury has an Archbishops Palace - the building on the left. And it was the Palace most favoured by St Thomas a Becket.
