Fast, but not furious.

Today was all about cars.

I hire my car, and have done so since I arrived here. It's not that expensive and saves a load of hassle regarding insurance and registration. Yesterday, the car decided it wouldn't start between 12:45pm and 1:30pm and so today I took it to the hire place to get it serviced and was given another one (pictured) to use in the meantime.

Five interesting facts for you:

1. The most popular cars in Oman are white Toyotas.
2. The most underused piece of equipment in a white Toyota is the indicator.
3. The police give on-the-spot fines of OMR10.000 (about twenty quid) if your car is dirty.
4. Omani women drive like crazed lunatics.
5. Apparently, the traffic in Oman isn't as bad as it is in Egypt.

This evening, we went to see Fast and Furious. It was a big load of nonsense but fun all the same. The best part was watching the reactions of the predominantly young male audience as skimpily clad girls stoated about and superfast cars belted about for 90 minutes. Shouting, laughing, whistling and cheering; they were loving the haramness of it all!

This dreadful (I only had one shot at this and so am reasonably glad I didn't cut off my head) photo was all I had time for today. It looked a lot better in my head but Larissa quite likes it as she thinks it's a bit fastandfuriousy.

After editing it to within an inch of its life, I must say it's growing on me a little.
