Above the Plague Village
We found a superb walk in a well known walking magazine this month. We started in the village of Eyam in the Peak District. Many folks will know of story of the village's sacrifice made when the plague arrived in a roll of infected cloth in 1665.
The surrounding countryside is beautiful. We headed out of the village up over Eyam Moor towards the village of Abney. The extra is a photo of the twin-stemmed sycamore in the village. We then crossed Bretton Clough, passing the Barrel Inn, which is claimed to be the highest pub in Derbyshire. We were very tempted to stop for a drink but we were just a bit too early. The views from the pub were quite something. We returned to Eyam via the picturesque village of Foolow. A walk of around 9 miles with sunny and warm weather.
It's one we'll do again as we had visited Eyam before, we hadn't walked in this area.
We sat on a bench in the free parish council car park and had some lunch. Although we put some money in the honesty box. The County Council car park right next door wanted to charge you £6 for the day!
We were joined by a couple of free range chickens who obviously had sussed that there was some free food to be had. So I shared some of the seeds in my rolls with them.
