Van life Day 5 - Lewis

Result! Our totally quiet wild camp, plus a quilt and sleeping bag, thermals and socks gave us a good night’s sleep. It was 5 degrees

The rain started and it has rained most of the day. We drove up to Ness and Butt of Lewis to the lighthouse but it was too wet to bother with a walk so we set off down to Callanish, blipped, (many times!). There’s a visitor centre which wasn’t there last time we visited but of course it was shut, as everything is here on Sundays for religious reasons. The Wee (not so) Free. All the churches must be open to full capacity again, judging by the number of cars in their car parks.

We might go back up to do the walk round the other stone circles. We found a brilliant place on the west of Cnip with great roller waves but we had booked a site further on for hookup. Turns out the hook up pitches are in a dip beside the bins with a great view of some caravans and no sight of the sea so we have moved to a pitch right above the beach with no hook up. We can dispose of black and grey waste and get water.

When (if!) the rain stops we’ll get a walk. Apparently there are Viking burial sites and a cist.
