Camera Obscura

When I bought the Sony DSC-HX60 to replace the Sony DSC-HX20V I assumed that both cameras would have the same battery and the same recharging apparatus. Not so. And therefore I had no spare battery for the DSC-HX60. It wasn't a significant issue because either the camera, or the battery, or its recharging system was faulty right from the start, but I became used to life with a single camera battery, and recharging it as-and-when I thought it might be getting a bit low has always worked out well enough, so I didn't bother buying a spare battery when I bought the current Canon.

If I had recently noticed that the battery required recharging more frequently it was only on a subliminal level, and maybe I was taking more photos lately.

So I was entirely unaware that there wasn't enough charge for even a single photo today until the moment when the world's sweetest little goat approached me to inspect my camera case. Damn! And immediately after that we climbed a hill just like the one I used to live on with the most amazing view. Damn! So this is yet another image from Folkestone on 28th March. Damn!

Since returning home I have found that I can buy an exact replica battery from Canon for £50.99 or I can buy one from Duracell for £19.20. I trust Duracell to make a proper replica battery and so have ordered two for £30.72 on the grounds that in future I will allow them to fully deplete and fully recharge.

Having a camera outlive its battery is a whole new experience for me. I should probably get a spare SD card too since this current one has recorded every single blip I have ever made on all three cameras since March 2015. I'm pushing my luck with that really aren't I.
