The Mosaic
We went on a short bike ride this afternoon, stopping briefly at Sparsholt village for refreshment. This rather splendid mosaic adorns the bus shelter. Cynically, I thought it quite remarkable it hasn't been vandalised or scrawled with graffiti, as so often seems to happen. However, it bears a plaque which says it was created in 2002, by Sparsholt children with the help of a professional mosaicist, and my guess is those same children and their families will have looked after, and protected, their creation from wanton damage over the past nineteen years.
I think it would be nice to see more bus shelters given such ornamentation and attention.
The most amazing bus shelter I have ever seen was one made completely of local marble, on the Greek island of Tinos.
