Squares in Squares
...and an unintended self-portrait. I took this shot on afternoon-into-the-evening walk, when we had the absolute luxury of stopping for a drink on a terrace after 5pm! We passed many which were too busy for our liking and stopped at one which we had passed many times when it was open just for take-aways and thought it looked interesting and had a definite Latin American feel to it. We had the terrace on the street to ourselves and ended up having some empanadas too (meat-filled pastries).
Bb worked in the morning at our dining table in the open plan patio/kitchen/living room and I put in my earphones to listen to music and cooked a big pot of chilli and another of bolognese. Half of each will be eaten this week and the other half frozen. A scene of domestic bliss for a few hours, had it not been for the fact that it was Sunday and Bb was working! We had the chilli for dinner tonight - delicious as always, thanks to one of favouriteJamie Oliver recipes.
Nice chat with my brother busboy before dinner. Good to catch up.
At midnight last night to mark the start of the first day of no curfew, there were parties in squares all over Barcelona. I'd predicted as much. I saw videos of a few this morning - they were 'botellones' - illegal street gatherings where the party-goers bring their own alcohol. No masks or distancing in sight. I understand totally the feeling of relief of being able to be out and about and having more freedom. We feel it too. What I don't get is that most of those young people would be going home to parents and potentially grandparents living under the same roof and who may not have been vaccinated yet.
