The domed splendour of the main dining room of the Merchant Hotel, built in the mid-nineteenth century as the headquarters of the Ulster Bank, demonstrates that wealthy banks are not a recent phenomenon.
Now you almost have to be a banker to afford to eat here.
Fortunately it was our son who was entertaining us for Mother's Day.
