Was It Really So Long Ago

Growing Dahlias from Seed

It seems the country has gone gardening mad of late. I've personally been keen for many years and discovered last spring that vegetable seeds were hard to come by, when I considered trying Crimson Crush tomatoes. At the time, we didn't have a greenhouse and that particular variety was reputed to fair well in the open air, against the dreaded blight and have a delicious flavour. Even though the seeds took many weeks to arrive, we enjoyed its fruits well into autumn. Anyhow, I digress (although its worth noting that a number of seed suppliers popular with the Instagram gardening fraternity are struggling to meet demand again this year - I'll come back to that in a later post I'm sure*).

I'd been struggling to find pompon Dahlia seeds due the recent popularity, but thanks to my sister, we have these tiny plants growing strongly on our windowsill.

*note that realseeds.co.uk are in my opinion a jewel amongst suppliers - their heirloom and heritage vegetable seeds are specially chosen for home gardeners!
