Glen Almond

Late Monday S said, “The weather doesn’t look too bad for tomorrow, do you fancy a hill day?” So coming up to midnight we decided to go up Auchnafree Hill and Beinn na Gainimh in Glen Almond, off the Sma’ Glen. We got up reasonably early, put the bikes on the car and parked about 11:00 at the entrance to Glen Almond. It was bright, so I was wearing shorts but fully expected to put on my Ron Hills later on; I didn’t as it was warmer than the forecast. We cycled up the glen, walked up Auchnafree Hill using a track that is old enough now to be quite well blended into the hill as the grass is colonising the gravel. It’s quite a good viewpoint and it’s always good to recognise the hills you’ve been to. We then went back to the bikes and cycled to the foot of the second hill and set off up another track that is also quite unobtrusive. There was a brief smirr of rain but the sun came out and my blip is the light in upper Glen Almond with Ben Chonzie as the rain cleared. The hill itself was a bit damp up top and oddly has a double electric fence on the top of the hill. So S bagged 2 new Marilyn and me 1 as I had been up Auchnafree Hill before. We saw a lot of wildlife with highlights being a weasel at the top of Beinn na Gainimh, an Eagle being mobbed by Ravens, and Red Kites.

Best on black.
