Yarm on Tees

We had a lovely morning as we decided to visit the nearby town of Yarm, which as you enter the town says 'Welcome to Yarm on Tees'. As far as we are concerned it has always just been called Yarm and is where Guy lived from the age of 11 to 17.

I wanted to visit the small independent shoe shop because it sells Hotter shoes. I spotted a pair made by Rieker, a German company, which I liked and are very comfortable so I bought them. Guy also needed a new pair of shoes and bought a pair of Hotter Gortex shoes. We are both pleased with our purchases. As it was a sunny morning we decided to have a coffee at one of the many cafés with outside seating. We chose an Italian one called Café Nossa. The coffee was really good and we treated ourselves to a slice of vegan walnut and banana cake. We discovered the cakes are made by the lady who owns Pistachio where we live and her husband runs Café Nossa. We will return.

We then had a walk down one of the back streets where the church is and also a model castle which is above head height on a garden wall. The building to the right of the castle is the town hall and Guy tells me that the story goes 'Where is the castle - opposite the town hall, where is the town hall - opposite the castle'. There isn't a castle in Yarm but there is a town hall in the middle of the high street which is typically wide as they are in this area. The third picture in the collage is of some of the cottages in a wynd (alley or ginnel depending where you are) which runs  from the back street to the high street. The pink cottage is called Penny Farthing Cottage - most of them had interesting names.
