Every School needs...

....a Pipe Band! That was the slogan on a number of banners at the first ever Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championship which was held at Broughton School in Edinburgh today.

40 schools took part and the overall prize was won by George Watson's in Edinburgh , whose performance I was lucky enough to catch at the end of the afternoon session and which included not just great music but some showmanship by the drummers - as can be seen from the ghostly outlines of the twirling drumsticks in this blip.

40 schools in all took part with the most distant being Sgoil Linacleit in Benbecula, which also won one of the sections. The organisers hope to double the number next year, and if the enthusiasm I witnessed today is a good indicator, I suspect they will succeed.
