The 'practical' plan had been to continue decorating this morning, but prompted by Cupcake we went to Meeting; which was the right choice as an occasion to reflect on Thurstan's life and remember the death of my mother, unexpectedly but peacefully at home, three years ago on Mother's Day.

At 'home' Dad did the wallpapering and Mum the painting. They weren't into painting walls, but in some way I hope our efforts, ably assisted by S, are 'up to scratch'.

I like to think so. Certainly they're better than the 'professional' covering it's replacing.

For this Mother's Day, Cupcake provided a very tasty carrot cake, and S cooked the evening meal of stuffed mushrooms, roast potatoes and aubergines, and greens; preceded by cheese and pineapple kebabs.

Teenage cooking is always a bit of an adventure.
