Clay and sand were needed for the construction of the Afsluitdijk. This is how a hole of 20 meters deep was created here. Later on, ditches and channels were restored. Now the height differences provide a varied landscape.

Here meadow and wading birds meet each other twice a day. to the rhythm of ebb and flow, wading birds look for a good foraging spot. Due to the lack of salt marshes outside the dykes, this nature reserve is one of the few refuges at high tide.
