The mother's day
Mother's Day, the day when mum's are meant to have an easy day, smothered with gifts as business tries to get family members to spend money on anything that can be linked to 'loving your mother'.
But when a mother's 10 year old daughter is feeling unwell, for the second day, it is the mum that both cancels any notion of an easy day, and does what mothers do, offering comfort and care. The daughter is of an age when she is beginning to feel 'grown up', with a bit of attitude, opinions, and moods, yet when she feels sick she reverts to being a child, needing care, warmth, medicine, and the most essential medicine of all, her mother's hug. Mum loved her cards, enjoyed the chocolates, then got on with the business of being a caring mother, as usual, as everyday. Just another mother's day...
The way mother and daughter folded into each other reminded me of countless similar images over history, from Renaissance art to classic photojournalism. Clearly a timeless subject.
Not forgetting... Get well soon Ella, poor thing
