Positively Birmingham

We were gifted a walking tour of Birmingham at Christmas 2019 and today finally took it! What an interesting and entertaining two hours.
I’d highly recommend www.positivelybirmingham.co.uk ; they do two trips at the moment and we took No 1: From Canals to Victorians , and discovered how the canals shaped the industrial revolution, and the impact of the Victorians. Our guide Jonathan was so knowledgeable and managed to find doorways to huddle in when it was tipping down ! We walked and talked all around the city centre you might see and take for granted, whilst learning so much about the history and people behind it.
We were the only two, but he had an audio system that meant we could socially distance yet still hear him. Especially over the noise in Centenary Square where a pro- Palestinian rally was being held, and outside the library where an civil liberties demo was mustering. It got very noisy! Frreeeeeedddddoooommm!!!!!!

I took tons of photos of architecture, especially the old contrasting the new, something I used to enjoy doing in London with a friend.
This is the Joseph Chamberlain memorial, to celebrate the life of a prominent social reformer and mayor of the city in the 1870s.

Oh and we bought a sofa this morning without too much compromise on either part, which is a novelty :-)
