The azalea

Especially fragrant this year, perhaps because we are so dry here.

Yesterday a massive spruce went down in a strong gust of wind on a clear sunny day. It stood right off the back porch and I was washing dishes at the window. I became aware of the wind gust and immediately heard a strong, strange rumbling. Next thing I knew I was watching the tree break off about 10’ up, lift up and down. It brought down several others trees, too. About 30 minutes later I realized how close I had come to having a serious problem. It fell parallel to the house and did not hit the pump house or electrical lines. I thanked the tree.
