Sunset in Fremantle

Backblip: Another beautiful day in WA today so we headed to Fremantle, which is a little port town near Perth. This place has so many things going for it, awesome markets, the Little Creatures Brewery, beautiful beach, and a very interesting convict/prison history.

I started out with the prison tour, which was very well done and quite interesting. The prison is the oldest in Western Australia, built by the convicts that were sent here from England in the 1850s and then turned into a maximum security prison once England decided that they didn't want to pay for it anymore. It was open right up until 1991, with few improvements to the prisoners day-to-day life. They didn't even have toilets in their cells!

I met up with my friend again in the afternoon and we went to the Little Creatures Brewery, which had been recommended to me by several friends, and we were just on time for the 2pm free tour. It was probably the best brewery tour I've ever been on, with a great guide and generous samples of all the beers at the end! We ended up staying for lunch (in the largest restaurant in the Southern Hemisphere, they serve up to 15000 in one day!) and another drink and it was fantastic. So happy with Fremantle so far :)

To finish off our afternoon, we headed to the beach to see the sunset and another night market, and then went to a park to see a free showing of the movie Brave in the park. I'm starting to love this place! Can't wait to see more!
