RIP Lafawnda
We lost our sweet wee Lafawnda tonight. She had started to lose the use of her back legs last year and had been largely getting around using just her front paws. We put little socks on with bandages to keep her legs protected as she began to lose muscle. Hubert always sat with her and when he passed we knew it might not be long before we lost her. This morning she wasn’t wanting to eat or drink and she was much the same when we came home. We gave her treats and syringe food, but it was clear she was planning on leaving us. She did eat a good amount of this banana, it was her favourite, and even at the end of her life she could not miss an opportunity for banana. I kept her close to me and snuggled with her on my chest, we heated her snugglesafe and kept her cosy under blankies. I dozed with her through the night, making sure she was warm and didn’t need anything. At about 3.30am on I noticed her breathing change and I woke up Lewis so we could both be with her, she passed very shortly after.
Lafawnda came to us in 2018, she had lived with Lewis’ brother prior to that. She was always a determined wee character, despite suffering a hypoxia brain injury and almost losing her life at 6months old. You wouldn’t have known she had a disability by the way she behaved, bold and brave, always looking for food. She suffered a severe bout of head tilt due to an ear infection in 2019 and we thought we would lose her then, but she pulled through and we got to spend more wonderful time with her. We had to provide her pretty extensive care in her last months but it was worth it, she made my days so happy. It has been hard to lose her and Hubert so close together, they were a close pair and it isn’t quite the same without them. Lafawnda was 9 years old, which doesn’t seem old enough, but it is not a bad age for a disabled rabbit.
I am missing her so much, she was a sweet wee monster.
