Wound up in Wexford

The high road

We regularly (several times a day) see squirrels using the top of our fence to get from the corner of the field next door to our bird feeders, where they feast on sunflower seeds.

It is a single track highway, with passing places - such as the elder tree seen to the right here.  The fence is full height here, but as it passes our kitchen window, it is lower, presumably so that we can stand at the sink and have a view into the field.  In addition to the frequent transit of squirrels, this lower section is also regularly used by a number of the neighbourhood cats - as a perch, and as a way of getting into our garden from the field.  I don't generally see the cats on the high part - they seem to prefer the low road (aka the ground) for this part of the transit.

We occasionally see episodes of "road rage" amongst the squirrels.

As an extra, the same squirrel in the hawthorn, contemplating the transfer onto the trellis.  The hawthorn is finally coming into flower - perhaps this is an indicator that we can safely pot up and put out our hanging baskets.  As dad was fond of quoting "Ne'er cast a clout till May be out"
