An Unkindness of Ravens

Day at the beach

It's Labour Day in Victoria, a public holiday, so we met up with a friend down at the beach (Ricketts Point, on the bay). It's nice to live in the bushy and hilly part of Melbourne (the rest is so flat), but it's a good hours drive to the beach - and that's not even a "proper" beach. For a proper ocean beach, you need to drive further, to the wild ocean side of the Mornington Peninsula or even further round the other side the bay, to the Surf Coast (so called for good reason!).

But this is a very sheltered and family friendly bayside beach (so no surf as such, unless its really windy) which has brilliant rock pools (the tide was in though, so not today) and a nice cafe (always important!). There were a lot of birds out where the rocks were just under the water - good food source - and eight pelicans came flying in to feed and groom on the rocks. I took a lot of photos, getting as close as I could without scaring them (the water was only knee deep) and I haven't even looked through them yet, but this one jumped out of the screen at me, as it was the only one I got this close and flying directly overhead.

And thank you to everyone for my 300 blipday wishes yesterday!
