Improving the public realm

This morning three volunteers from the local environment group tackled some nearby local authority planters. The planters themselves are reasonably attractive and I expect they weren't cheap. But as is so often the case with these sorts of things they've not been maintained. My blip shows one of them, full of perennial weeds and not doing a lot for the look of the area. The three volunteers are in the background and, in a sign of the times, so is the walk-in covid testing centre.

Weeding the planters is going to take ages. My contribution to the activity was to make coffee and supply flapjacks - left over from Sunday and going gooier by the minute. Once they're free of weeds two of the containers will be re-planted with beautiful red clover kindly supplied by the Butterfly Conservation Trust. The bees are going to love that too. The others will be sown with wildflower seeds. It's a bit late in the year but spring has been so slow I think it should be OK.
