Fionnphort

It was a rainy morning for my return journey to Lochbuie to pick up the camera I left there. Apart from the Lochbuie Linesman, which must be a helluva job on these single track roads. He was busy transferring the cables from the old pole to the new on a cherry picker which he ran singlehanded, including driving the van it was mounted on every 10-15 minutes to let the traffic past. Of course, I had to pass him on the way there and on the way back.

Once back and after a coffee we set off for Fionnphort. By now the rain had stopped and it gradually turned into a beautiful day. Fionnphort is where the ferry goes to Iona (and Staffa) but we didn't have plans to do that today.

The bay has a rock that's doing a fair impression of Split Apple Rock in New Zealand. It needs a few more years of weathering and a higher tide for the picture. We had a walk around the area and the sea was so blue it looked like seaside postcards wherever you look. My main blip is the view we had while eating lunch (I had fish and chips, Marian had half a lobster) sitting in the sun outside the Creel Seafood Bar.

We've not had much success with sea eagles or otters so far. A couple we were talking to at lunch had seen Golden Eagle, White Tailed Eagle and otters. They saw the otter just over the loch from where we're staying so just on the off chance, we took a drive over that way on our otter hunt. We stopped at every opportunity but we saw nothing. On the way back I stopped to photograph the heelan coos that live on the other side of the village. I've added them as an extra and one of 'split apple rock'.
