Take Off

Today we return to The Spinnies for the first time since last summer. It’s a gorgeous little nature reserve by the mouth of the river Ogwen, and a favourite place for spotting kingfishers. On my first visit here I was blessed with a wonderful sighting, and stood spellbound watching one fish for at least thirty minutes. 

Of course, today offers no such chances; according to a regular we speak to, things have been pretty limited in terms of star bird species. It’s easy to feel disappointed when you’re hoping for a kingfisher, but seeing this beautiful heron taking off from the reed beds should be compensation enough. 


The kingfishers will have to wait ....
