Wild Orchids Along a Path in the Scotia Barrens
It is the time of year for the pink lady's slipper (Cypripedium acaule) blooms, and I am enchanted by them. Ever since I spotted that first green twist of two basal leaves, and then the pale green flowers that finally turned pink, I've been smittten. I visit them every chance I get. I have counted more than a hundred pink blooms in just a short walk; it's a good year for them, apparently.
The Barrens is just a few minutes' walk or bike ride from my home, so it's convenient to go there. This is a favorite stand of pretty pink flowers right along one of the main paths. I am fortunate, I know, and I feel right at home here, among the wildflowers. . . .
The soundtrack song is Tom Petty's Wildflowers. I'm also including an excellent cover by the Wailin' Jennys. Enjoy!
