Somebody put a flamethrower on it...

Despite being in my thirties, owning a filing cabinet, and - in other aspects of my life - being quite organised, my attitude to personal paperwork has always been disappointingly laissez-faire. I don't know why this is. I know that if I organised my life, I'd be less stressed, more tidy and possibly more in control of my finances. The definition of my own personal insanity is that i allow letters to sit unopened; bank statements are ignored, and brown envelopes are actively stuffed away in a drawer so I don't have to look at them. Then I expect to be able to find things immediately (or - more often - too late), to function like a proper rational adult, with car tax, and home insurance, and bills paid on time.

In short, I'm an idiot.

The time has come. This is the accumulated paperwork pulled from the filing cabinet, the post drawer, and a glass fronted bookcase that is dying to be turned into a home bar, but instead looks like the stationery cupboard of a lunatic, laid out ready to be sorted.

Now, if I could only find that flamethrower...
