My Walk Home
I was on my way back from my barber when I took this photo. I have no real connection to that particular place but I just liked how it looked. I like the cobble stone roads and the simplicity of the shops in this area.
I guess today was about appreciating the simple things. After school I went on a run with one of my students. He and I have been planning this run for a little while now and it wasn't until today that I realized exactly how funny he is. I mean, he has always been funny but today after school was different. It was a bit sad for me because I couldn't believe it took me this long to see that about him. Today I made it a goal for myself to sit down and talk to every single one of my students outside of class. Not about school, not about work...just talk about anything. Such a simple thing can change everything. I really enjoyed my run today.
Also, I was reading Walt Whitman and I was reading a poem in which he talks about human "form" and what it takes to be human. He says we need to strive to connect our physical and spiritual sides. And I think some of those connections are through very simple things-like a run with someone that brought you closer to them.
I am thankful for the simple things.
