Down to the Water

Lots of activity today, online, on the phone, discussions, decisions to be made, and dinner with Rose.
Jan found a camper van, which looks to be what we want and after much thought we will be off to the south, probably on Sunday, on a 550 km trip to check it out.
We took a walk out at Smitingen, along the beach, and then on the path leading to Klubbsjön - Klubb Tarn. The picture shows a view of the tarn as seen through the trees. When walking in the Swedish forest this is often the first view of water.
This tarn is on a headland, with the sea on three sides (link to Google Maps) so its islands are much favoured by nesting birds, especially seagulls.
There’s a walkway giving easy access to the picnic spot part way around the lake, and the gull here (flickr) was resting on the handrail. As we got closer it just sat there. Camera out and move a little closer, and then a bit closer still, until I was just two meters away and took the picture. A few centimetres nearer, still no reaction. A little closer, and finally the gull reacted, by stepping sideways along the handrail. I closed in, the gull sidled along the beam. Finally I took a larger step and the gull opened its wings and glided away.
We continued to the picnic spot, enjoyed the view and the bird song and then headed back. The gull had returned to its favourite perch but briefly flew so we could walk by, after which it swung back to the rail!
Dinner with Rose was as good as usual. She loves to experiment with food, but she always worries about the recipes not working. However she knows we are happy to eat even the failed experiments. How she knows that is a slight mystery because in thirty years none of her experiments have ever failed badly!
