Shooting Through a Fence
Inverurie Locomotive Works is undergoing redevelopment which gave me an opportunity to view the place through the Health and Safety fence.
All the usual suspects advise manual focus, wide aperture and above all the non rocket science trick of positioning the camera to shoot through the gaps in the fence. Seemingly the latter is good for lion enclosures and aviaries where you may wish to make the viewer suspect that you have recently returned from working with that Attenborough chap in Africa.
Since construction has nearly finished on the site I decided to shoot the fence on the basis that it is a temporary structure and is unlikely to be around for much longer than a few more weeks, whereas the renovated buildings are likely to have a lifespan measuring decades at the very least.
History will tell if I made the right decision or not.
