Student Led Conferences
Today we attended Olivia's learning conference at school. It was in a format that we've never experienced before but it was fantastic. We had an hour allocated so that Olivia could take us around six different stations in her classroom to show us her portfolios and what she has been learning about and teach us games that they use in maths and reading, for example. So, armed with her clipboard and pen she led us to a station of her choice and talked us through her work and taught us a game before moving to another station. Parents had been asked not to guide the session but to allow 'wait time' for the student to share their work and understanding. It was really informative and amazing for us all to see the progress that Olivia has made since the start of the academic year. So much hard work went into the organization of the day by the teachers and students and Olivia clearly loves school.
I think my husband summed it up best when he said: "I would love to be a kid in this class!"
