Signs of the times

These are posted on the fence at the local firehall. I don't like seeing that High already. We have heard of a few wildfires burning around the province.
Gill, our friend David's wife, passed away many months ago. David has made the tough decision to move to Toronto where his kids and their families live. After living here for about 17 years, it will be quite a change. He and Gill lived in Toronto, so he's familiar with the city, but more importantly, he wants time with his kids, their spouses, and his two young grandchildren. He's renting his house here to a couple from Vancouver who plan to build on the island. He and his kids have decided not to to sell the house yet so I'm sure he'll be back for a visit. G picked him up this morning and drove him to the ferry, and I met them there to see David on his way. Sad to see him go, but absolutely the right decision for him.
After the ferry left, I went for a walk up the main road. It was early so there was very little traffic, and it was nice to have a change of scenery. When I got home, G had collected our garbage because David had asked him to drop off some last minute garbage of his. He'd also asked G to drop off a blowup bed at another friend's house. I decided to go along for the ride, and it was good to see the other friend and his wife.
A friend came over this afternoon to get a couple of cuttings from our fig trees to graft onto hers. She brought us some asparagus from her garden, and we'll definitely enjoy that! So we saw more friends today than we have for months, all socially distanced of course and no real socializing, just some outdoor chatting.
We also spent time dealing with some of the tent caterpillars that have invaded the island again. G cut quite a few branches but there are more that will have to come off. A few years ago, the infestation was so bad that our house was covered with them and I had to wash down the entire outside walls. Not pleased at all that they've returned! We spotted a few in the veggie garden, so I'll have to be vigilant out there. Yuck.
