When Albert Met Penny

Dear O'H dear and Lovely Tea Jenny,

We headed to Banchory for the weekend. There were trips down memory lane with old photos, re-hearing the story of how Penny and Albert met...

He first saw her on a train in 1963. They were both in the same compartment, travelling to Glasgow. She was studying at Glasgow university and he remembers that she took a notebook out of her briefcase and furiously scribbled notes for the entire journey*.

At the time he worked at Hunterston Power Station and one day, Marnie (the tea lady) came round selling tickets for a dance. He wasn’t particularly interested but Marnie was VERY chatty so it was easier just to buy one. He decided (as he’d spent a couple of pounds) that he might as well go along for a little while.

And there she was, at the dance: the girl from the train. Who turned out to be Marnie’s daughter!

The rest, as they say, is history.
