nevermore
We were up early this morning, full of P&V (a saying my Mother was fond of), excited to play in the dirt. Showers and thunderstorms were predicted for the afternoon so we knew we needed to take advantage of the early dry weather. Thankfully the breezy conditions made the humidity more tolerable • Garden update: the scarlet runner beans are in the ground! Fingers crossed they germinate; we also planted borage seeds around the tomatoes to deter the horned tomato worm from invading (a scary other-worldly creature). In pots on the patio we have three different bell peppers, and two spicy peppers (can you tell we like peppers?); and last (drum roll, please) is something I’m most excited about, something new for us to grow and eat: cucamelons! • It’s also known as the Mexican Cucumber. They should be eaten when only about an inch long, their skin is edible, they look like a watermelon, but taste like a citrusy cucumber. It sounds divine and we’re excited to give it a try. Folks on the US West Coast are likely more familiar with them. Definitely count on a future blip if we’re able to grow them. It’s a fun word too. I’ve been calling the cats and MrsP cucamelons for a couple of weeks, lol!
