Insect

I think this is a robber fly.  It had settled on my sprayer when I'd gone into the house to fetch something.  I then had to go in again to fetch a camera, and it was still there when I got back.  Wikipedia says that robber flies feed mainly or exclusively on other insects.  They wait around until there's a chance to catch their prey in flight.
