Fur trapper?

I wish this chap had turned round so I could have seen his face. He looked as though he was caught in a time warp with his leather coat and flying helmet. Sadly my train came in before his so I never saw him move. What was in the round case? Was he a busker or was it full of fur trimmed hats???
