BACK TO THE BEAVER SKULL

I've been busier than a one-warmed paper hanger so we'll have to be content with a review of the beaver skull.

Ever look a rodent straight in the eye? This is what the tree felling incisors look like......it's the same look on all rodents. The only variable is size. This skull is about the size of a big man's fist.

Check the extra for a side view. You can seen the chewing teeth and a large gap between them and the incisors.....the diastema, typical of all rodents.  I've also added the color version for those of you who don't dig B&W.

As mentioned before, the incisors of a rodent are self sharpening...you can see in the side view how they overlap. The hard outside grinds against the softer inside wearing it away and keeping the front edge razor sharp. Yes....a beaver could easily take off your finger bone and all.

Imagine in ancient times beavers the size of black bears......they did exist. Check it out:  https://earthsky.org/earth/why-giant-beavers-went-extinct/
