Snuggling up...
Drove down to Cambridge today to meet up with my younger son J and his partner M today. It was so good to see them in the flesh after almost nine months of FaceTime chats.
Despite it being a cool, windy and cloudy day, we really made the best of it and walked along the Cam to Grantchester for a most enjoyable pub lunch - it was great to clink glasses and drink each other's health once again. Simple pleasures mean such a lot after being locked down for so long...
After lunch we strolled down to the Church of St Andrew and St Mary and saw the famous clock which Rupert Brooke immortalised in his poem The Old Vicarage, Grantchester, written in Berlin in 1912. Sadly he died three years later and his name is on the War Memorial in the churchyard.
On the walk back to Cambridge we came across a pair of swans with six cygnets dabbling in the backwater. Well, we thought it was six until we spotted that each swan had a little one snuggling up asleep between its wings. A beautiful and touching sight.
PS I know the clock on the church should say 'ten to three' but we didn't quite get there in time!
For the record: Cool and windy. Max 10C
