Under the bridge

While the lockdown in Glasgow must be devastating for business for those of us who live here walking and shopping in the city centre is at the moment a delight. My second vaccine pushed me out and I had a great day. I took the train to Central Station which was a bit busier than expected and I walked along the Clyde to the SEC/Louisa Jordan, passing the La Pasionaria memorial  to the International Brigade volunteers who on the river bank to all those who fought against fascism in the Spanish civil war. I hadn’t noticed it before.
The blip is the underneath of the Clyde Railway Bridge just south of central station, it’s undergoing substantial work including the replacement of most of the ‘iron work’.
I arrived early and was waved in, and then out in less than 10 minutes, all very well organised and straightforward.
An unfamiliar walk through Finnieston along Argyll and Sauchiehall Streets and into Kelvingrove and eventually into Byers Road. My destination was to have been Hillhead Library. I should have checked, it doesn’t keep the same hours/days as my local one so a great excuse to return before Glasgow reverts to level 2 and the crowds are back. Instead I explored just about all the charity shops, one of the best butcher shops in Glasgow (Rodgers) and a French café for coffee and cake.
Cases are down somewhat today, at least in Glasgow, and an indication from the FM that a different approach is imminent based on more effective public health interventions, and increasing confidence in the vaccine against the latest variant.
