Puffinologists

We went on a boat trip this morning round the Farne Islands. It was a seabird tour and there were thousands and thousands of guillemots, razorbills, terns, cormorants, puffins and a shag or two.

We were looking forward to the puffins and have we have been searching for puffin hats (sadly the right one has not yet been acquired) lol. We feel that we are puffin aficionados now....puffinators, to be exact.

As we were close to the rocks....the smell was overpowering...it felt like you were part of an Attenborough life of sea birds film.

Just as we arrived back in Seahouses an ambulance arrived at the harbour with blues flashing. The lifeboat was ‘launched’ with the paramedics on board. The lifeboat is kept on a huge trailer that is towed out of the shed across the road and down the slipway and into the sea. The trailer then tilts up and creates its own slipway so it can slide into the water. It was a bit of drama that everyone watched. I don’t know what the rescue involved but hopefully all went well.

We came home via Alnmouth after a recommendation (thanks Cailleach) and then Amble. Then it was time to jump in the hot tub again.
