A tale of war, railings and trees.
During WW2, huge quantities of iron railings were removed from Britain's streets, gardens, parks, cemeteries, from anywhere that they could be found. The intention was to use the iron in the manufacture of ordnance for the war effort but apparently much of it was simply dumped.
The photograph is of an opportunistic young sycamore tree that has made its home in a hole granite block which once housed one of those railings!
Remaining with trees as a theme, the extra is a scan of a Kodachrome slide showing our first born enjoying Autumn leaves 40 odd years ago. To where does time fly?
