A Busy Morning In The Garden

We spent the morning cutting back the mahonia and other shrubs in the back garden, which had got rather tall of late. This blackbird kept us company, taking a very close interest in what we were up to, hopping around our feet and collecting the berries that had dropped off the mahonia. Here he is with a beak full of morsels he’d pecked out of one of the plant pots.

By the time we’d finished we had two dumpy bags of cuttings to take to the recycling centre.

I had a correspondingly lazy afternoon in the garden, enjoying the very welcome warm sun in the company of Kate Mosse’s latest novel, The City Of Tears. I can thoroughly recommend it.
