Waiting
Newhailes House was the destination for our lunch today in the recently-refurbished stableyard, with a dozen rustic tables, each with a protective parasol against sunshine or, as today, rain.
A walk round the grounds provided several photo opportunities, including this of a male Orange-tip feeding on Garlic Mustard, with a fly patiently awaiting a turn on the flower. It need not have worried as there were plenty of others. In the wooded area are patches of Lily-of-the valley, their leaves so similar to Ramsons, only the blooms indicated their identity.
We were surprised to see that the fields at the centre of the grounds, where most of the dogs would run and socialise freely, have been ploughed - apparently leased for arable farming. Consequently all the dog walkers are confined to the perimeter, adding to congestion on the paths.
The rain began to beat down once we were safe home, followed by sunshine and blue sky - but no rainbow. The main feature of the weather was the warmth; after so many cold days I was obliged to shed my coat earlier, while shopping in The Range.
Extra photo provided by Miss Flum: the blackbird's nest recently vacated seems to be under renovation for a second brood. Watch this space!
