Hap-pre Birthday!
With The Eldest turning 16 tomorrow and with plans at her mother’s, we celebrated her birthday a day early with a slap-up meal at Pizza Express.
She did something to make her hair curly, we got dressed up (“that jacket doesn’t go with those trousers, Dad”) and had a nice walk into town along the river. It was a nice second slice of her pre-birthday sandwich following this morning’s effort, when The Youngest took the time to display their present to her, so she would see it as soon as she walked in. It was very sweet.
She’ll get her presents tomorrow, but it was nice to have a bit of quality time with her just one-on-one this evening. She really is in that awkward in-between age where she’s not quite a woman, but equally no longer a child. The chief exhibit here is when discussing the menu for her prom-not-prom, she noted the presence of a prawn cocktail and asked her teacher what kind of drink it was….
Cocktails for the insane aside, she’s doing well and is looking forward to seeing the back of her exams tomorrow - which will no doubt add to the birthday joy!
In other news, post-blipping last night, I spent a large part of my evening stitching the waistband of m’boy’s gym trousers, so they don’t fall down anymore and was delighted when he tried them on this morning and the trousers remained in situ.
For her part, The Youngest failed to wreak any havoc in any way shape or form, so I’m calling that a hat trick of successes (admittedly in varying degrees).
In between all that, I squeezed a lunch out with a friend in and did a shed load of work to boot.
Two days ’til hols.
