WHITE SWAN cygnus olor
We dont often see white (mute) Swan in Christchurch so it was a surprise walking up the Harts Creek ( just East of Leeston ) to see a pair. they were friendly enough after having us around for a few minutes.
the harts creek walk leads to a hide at the end - a walk of around 15 minutes.
We got to the hide and unfortunately spooked the ducks ( not hard to do - they are a bit silly, ducks! and the other birds seem to use them as their alarm system )
we spooked a large flock of around 100 spoonbill in close to the hide.
I was a bit grumpy about that- as they flew off to further up the lake .
A very well worthwhile walk. not the variety of birds as the Estuary but heaps of ducks black swan, and pied stilts. ( spoonbill of course !)
interesting day with three companions. Mrs Poo, Richard Racket and Coach Pete. Heaps of young trout in the creek.
