Outback sunset
The setting sun silhouettes a coolibah tree (Eucalyptus microtheca) on the floodplain of the Darling River, near Bourke, in outback Australia. All that’s needed to make it the iconic outback image is a billabong and a jolly swagman.
Before we left on this trip a friend asked ‘how will you know when you’re in the outback’. The answer is: ‘when you get there, you just know’. And if the place-name Bourke is linked to it, you are very definitely in the outback.
