Rub For Luck

We took our granddaughter to Mesnes Park in Wigan for the first time today.
There is a statue to a former town benefactor (Francis Sharpe Powell), which tradition holds will bring luck if you rub his shoe.
The shoe is copper, rubbed bright, and has been patched and repaired many times over.
Naturally we had to give our granddaughter a chance to do what our own children and we as children have done!
