90th Birthday
The picture was not taken recently. However, today is my Aunt Sylvia’s 90th birthday. She is the one on the right. The one on the left is my mother, Iris. Sadly, Mum passed away 10 years ago. The last time we all got together with her (and her twin sister - as if you couldn’t guess from the picture) was at their 80th birthday celebrations. Throughout their entire lives my aunt and my mum spoke to each other every day until we lost mum, so while we all found it hard, my aunt was particularly hard hit. Growing up, it was like having two mums. I only once mistook my aunt for my mum, which she has never let me forget. She told me today that she sang happy birthday to my mum this morning. We (all my family spread across three countries (UK, France and the Netherlands)) zoomed to sing Happy Birthday at a (correctly distanced and safe) garden afternoon tea at my cousin’s place. It was lovely seeing her, even though she found the zooming rather challenging! This is my all-time favourite picture of the two of them, spontaneously taken through a serving hatch at my Mum & Dad’s place. Mrs SoL (Frenchtoast) has blipped a picture of the Zoom meet as it was happening.
Happy Birthday Auntie Sylvia, xxxx
